Sally Bailey-Ravet, Translation Degree (ISIT), Conference Interpretation Degree (ISIT), AIIC, began her career as a staff interpreter for IITA (International Institute for Tropical Agriculture) in Nigeria in 1989. She then worked as a freelance interpreter in Strasbourg and became a staff interpreter at the Council of Europe in 1997. She has been the Head Interpreter of the Council of Europe since 2007. She is the executive secretary of the Network of Heads of Interpreting Services (HINTS). She has played an active role in defining new standards and working conditions for interpreters working in remote simultaneous mode and is leading the Council of Europe working group responsible for testing speech-to-speech technology.

The Interpreting Department of the Council of Europe has taken the lead in integrating new technologies and assessing their impact on interpreters’ working conditions. Following negotiations with AIIC, we reviewed working conditions and have put in place the first AIIC agreement on DCI, thus contributing to defining the new standards for quality assurance and effective communication for hybrid and online events.
